Purpose

Nine stores were chosen across Australia and New Zealand to partake in the Action Sports digital installation. The Nike Action Sports interactive experience is essentially what many brands are talking about, but few have successfully implemented.

Nike’s omnichannel aspirations were brought to life for Nike Action Sports using RFID technology, tablets and banks of TV screens.

The Journey

Working collaboratively, Nike and IE produced some of the most cutting-edge technology for their skate collection. Under a short time-frame, IE created a ‘touch-and-feel’ digital solution with an engaging customer experience at the forefront. The installation consisted of:

  • A back wall with integrated display technology (TV screens and iPads)
  • An RFID sensor that reacts when a product is placed on it (like shoes) displaying relevant content.
  • Ambient video content and brand messaging displayed on TV screens when the RFID sensor is not in use.
  • The system is scalable in its design to fit a wide variety of retail store configurations.

Solution

This solution rolled out across the nine stores in the first half of 2013. Since the first store launch, sales and product engagement have increased significantly.

The iPad allows customers to purchase their desired product online after leaving the store. If a size or style is unavailable, customers are provided with a QR code, email or MMS with links to the Nike online store. This communication then provides Nike the opportunity to upsell other products.
